BUILT IN TWO DAYS

This custom designed cottage was designed by The Ideal Environment/Brian Lee Architect in 6 months, and assembled on an island in Georgian Bay in only 2 days.  The siding, decks and screened porch were completed and the Cottage was ready for summer fun in only a further 7 weeks.  The Clients were able to use their cottage the same summer as it was built, unheard of with island construction.  This was possible using factory prefabrication and careful designing and scheduling of the project to save over 6 months in construction time, compared to normal building methods.   Normal island construction requires 2 seasons to complete the building, due to the short weather friendly access period.  Great care was taken by the Architects and Interior Designers at The Ideal Environment/ Brian Lee Architect to create a Cottage that had a totally custom designed appearance and avoided the connected box look that can occur with factory built homes.

SOLAR POWERED

Solar power provides the entire electrical needs of the cottage.  The cost of the solar system was no more than the cost of bringing power to the island lot.  This will result in savings of over $2000 per year for decades due to no hydro bills. The system was strong enough to run all the contractors’ tools requiring no exhaust and noise from expensive generators.

CUSTOM and PREFAB

This custom cottage design by The Ideal Environment / Brian Lee Architect is uniquely suited to the clients needs, the island terrain and has a distinctive Georgian Bay feel.  Prefab construction allowed speedy construction and a traditional country home appearance with no design compromises.   Prefab is ideally suited a construction location such as islands, golf resorts or ski clubs where construction time is limited to the season or weather.

ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS CONSTRUCTION

Prefab construction on this island location saved 6 months and the fuel and lost labour costs from hundreds of boat trips back and forth delivering workers.  This drastically reduced the resulting fuel and oil exhaust and water pollution.  Also, travel time for factory workers is much less than remote construction sites.  Factory construction allows for easy recycling of construction waste.  All onsite waste was removed in only one garbage bin.

ENERGY EFFICIENT

All homes designed by The Ideal Environment are designed to be highly air tight and well insulated.   Achieving a high quality of building envelope was possible because of the factory’s controlled construction environment.  Spring and fall heating for this cottage is provided by a heat circulating hybrid fireplace woodstove with a small propane heater for backup. Most electrical lights are energy efficient compact fluorescent.  The Solar Powered Electrical System allows for instant real time monitoring of power consumption.  The children have taken their new understanding of power usage to the Toronto home as well, and are reminding their parents to turn lights off when not in use.
